On the Edge

Five years old: When I grow up I am going to be…a fire fighter, police officer, princess, cowboy, astronaut, athlete, movie star, doctor, pilot, wizard.  The list goes on and on, but as we grew our answers took some shape into true professions.  We said doctors, lawyers, teachers, police officers (still), writers, actors.

There then came a time for many people where they ran into someone who said no.  This person didn’t ask you what you wanted to be when you grew up, but rather what you were going to do with your life.  They wanted to know what classes you would take to contribute to this plan, how it would make you money, and if you would realistically be good at it.  These people are the WORST.

Whoever this person was in your life: teacher, guidance counselor, mentor, parent, friend, neighbor, they were wrong.

You don't have dreams.jpg

You do not need a realistic plan to have dreams you believe in.  You do not need everyone to believe in this dream as much as you do, but you owe it to your younger self to keep believing.  Who are those people to tell you what you can and cannot do.  When those people put you down, you stand on the edge of a major decision.  This decision does not only affect your dreams, but who you are as a person.  Whether you choose to back up into the safety and approval of others or to jump in the direction of your dreams will affect who you are to your very core.

So here I am, just one person telling you it is okay to JUMP.  **This does not mean go literally jump off of something**  Jump in the direction of your dream.  Will everyone achieve every dream they have, sadly no.  However, how do you know that you won’t until you really try.  You put everything you have into this dream and believe that you can do it.

Find a support system that will believe in you and this dream as much or possibly even more than you do.  This will truly help when you have those bad days and feel like backing up rather than jumping.  Take a small step everyday to accomplish your dreams.  You want to play major league baseball?  Throw, bat, run, and learn about the game every day.  You want to go to the school of your dreams?  Study like it is your literal forty hour a week job, talk to reps and alumni, apply for scholarships.  Do something that will help you remember where you are headed.  Never give up on your dreams even when you get older you still have a chance and it is time to stop waiting.  There is no invitation that will say hey its the perfect time to accomplish exactly what you want.  You have to want it and work for it all the time.  Give yourself time to do the work and get to where you want to be.  The old saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day has never been more important.  If you give up every time you hit a bump in the road, you will get no where and just because you decide you are going to start working at this does not mean that the next day you will be there.  Have fun with the work and maintain an optimistic attitude.  If you do not believe in yourself and your dreams than why should anyone else?  Show them that you are someone for them to believe in.
